About 249 / A Print Show
We want to fill our studios with prints from artists and designers from all over the world! And what’s more: every poster submitted or sold benefits scholarships for emerging artists!
Who doesn’t love making a poster? For this popup show we want artists, designers, makers and anyone else to get back to the simplicity of enjoying the art of making. You make the work, you submit the work, we print the work, and we hang the work. There is no theme, just the space to express yourself, show your skills or experiment among your peers while helping young artists afford to pursue their art and design education!
This show is a fundraiser to establish the Shockoe Artspace Scholarship Fund. Each print will be up for sale with the proceeds from the show going toward scholarships to help students with material costs, tuition and more!
Digital Submission Guidelines
• All prints must be submitted as PDFs. No printed posters will be accepted.
• All files must be 11″ x 17″
• Full bleed printing will not be available. All files should account for a 0.25″ safe space surrounding the artwork
• Submission deadline is March 27
While the backbone of Shockoe Artspace’s programming is museum-scale exhibitions, we work to build the entire ecosystem of art and design from aspiring to seasoned makers. Because of this, we are presenting our first international popup show. Open to all and judged by a panel of professional artists and makers, this show will benefit the creation of Shockoe Artspace’s Scholarship Fund for Emerging Artists.
Shockoe Artspace, whether through experimental or traditional works, adheres to the highest standards of quality. While we seek beautifully executed work, we also value work that is innovative, presents the artist’s unique voice and engages the viewer intellectually, emotionally, and visually.
Our popup show duration is one month. All selected artists will be notified about their inclusion in the show.
A. Works selected will reflect the theme of each exhibition.
B. Submitted works should reflect fresh and liberating interpretations of the artists’ vision of the theme.
C. Works will be judged on the basis of originality, technical quality and thematic depth.
D. Jurying and Notification Submissions will be juried by a panel of art professionals who are not employed by or volunteers of Shockoe Artspace. Please note: jurying results will not be relayed over the phone, all notifications will be through email.
